IN MEMORY OF MARGARET SMITH
December 17, 1945 - July 31, 2009
With sadness, death has come among us. Margaret Smith has silently closed the door of life and departed from us never again to return.
Margaret started working for AFGE in 1977. For the
first 17 years with AFGE, Margaret worked at the National Office in
Washington, D.C. starting in the Insurance Department and subsequently
working in the Political Affairs Office and the Field Services Office. In
March of 1994, Margaret transferred to the 5th District Office where she
worked as a Secretary/Legal Assistant until her retirement of 30 years in
2007.
Margaret was not just an AFGE Employee - she was our friend. We are
blessed to have had the privilege of knowing her, working with her, and
having someone so giving of herself.
Margaret's death is visibly and profoundly felt by those with whom she had contact with. She was always so full of life. She was a wonderful gift to those of us whose life she
touched. Her memory will never be forgotten.
There is a saying that makes
me think of her: Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass… It's
about learning to dance in the rain. Margaret learned to dance in the
rain, she put up a good fight over the last two and half years and right
up to the end.
It is hard to find the words to express our thoughts and
feelings when we loss someone so special. Just know that "The Fearless
Fifth" loss a member of their family. She will be missed, she was loved,
and she will not be forgotten.
To her loving family and all who mourn with
you, please accept our assurance of heartfelt
sympathy.
